Bad Schmiedeberg is situated in Central Germany in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. The little town has 4 500 inhabitants and is surrounded by the Dübener Heide national park. Extensive forests with deciduous trees and conifers, idyllic lakes, moorlands and meadows are typical features of the countryside in this area. The climate is mild and bracing. Patients and guests have come to the spa of Bad Schmiedeberg since 1878 to seek convalescence and recreation. The indigenous iron-containing mud or peat deposits as well as the two rich wells with their rare mineral water provide a good basis for the applications in the spa. The long tradition in using natural remedies ensures the success of our treatment. The center of the spa with its art nouveau sanatorium, the historic park and the guest houses to which a new rehabilitation clinic, Germany's most modern mud-bath kitchen as well as more gardens and parks have been added. A drinking pavilion for the mineral waters of the local Margarethe's and Elector's wells has been erected right in the square in front of the sanatorium. A new therapeutic center complements the historical ensemble around the swan lake in a harmonious way. The applications which are based on the natural remedies found locally, i.e. mud, mineral water and radon, can be ideally combined with the methods of classical and modern medicine in this building. We treat orthopedic defects and rheumatic diseases of the supporting and locomotor system, metabolic disorders affecting the joints and - as a second branch of specialization - gynecological diseases.
